One Lovely Blog Award

A little over a month ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Stationdeva had nominated me for the One Lovely Blog Award! Yay! However, in that last month I’ve been really distracted by uni and everything and completely forgot about it and then didn’t remember again until two weeks ago. Then I went on camp, and then I got a bad cold and just a few moments ago I remember “Hey, wasn’t I nominated for an award a while ago?” and so here I am! A recipient of the One Lovely Blog Award:

For this award I’m supposed to give 7 facts about myself and nominate 7 other bloggers for the award. But because I haven’t been very active recently, I haven’t been reading as many blogs as I should so I don’t really have anyone new I could nominate 😦 However, I will still do the 7 facts about me!

  1. One of the reasons I’ve been procrastinating so much is because of Tumblr which I fairly recently aquired *shifty look* If you’re interested it’s but this blog is still more important to me than my Tumblr
  2. I actually do feel really bad for not being as active as I should be. And then I say I’ll try to do better but I don’t and I’m really really sorry about that! But I am trying 🙂
  3. These are a lot harder than I thought they would be…
  4. Oooh, got one! My favourite colour is purple, with blue coming in a close second 😛
  5. I’m going to start doing karate soon (once this cold goes away) and I’m really really excited for it!
  6. Most of my life focusses around my fandoms. It hard to not constantly talk about them when I’m in public 😛
  7. I’m in my second year of Environmental Science and university and I’m loving it so much!

That’s all for now, and I shall post again soon! Thank you again for the award 😀

Winning the ABC Award!

Hello, all! I was amazingly given another award, one that I have no previously won, called the ABC Award. ABC standing for Awesome Blog Content. Yay! I was nominated by the incredible Stationdeva.

But with every award, there comes a list of things I must do, this time it’s an unusual request. For every letter of the alphabet I have to write a word that relates to me somehow and then explain how it does. Some of the letters I knew straight off, some I could barely think of a word that would fit and some there were too many words that I could use. So without further ado, here it go, me from A to Z 🙂

Amanda – My first name. That’s right, it isn’t Mandarox 😛 Amanda is Latin and means “worthy of love”. I actually really like my name, it’s not too common and not so uncommon that no one knows how to spell it. It’s just right in the middle.

Books – Although I haven’t been reading as much as I would have liked to recently, I do really like reading. Especially, classics books. Not e-books, but the original, books.

Cape Conran – This was the best camp I have ever been on and my first ever university camp. It took place in Cape Conran National Park which is a coastal park on the far East tip of Victoria. I will say it again; best camp ever.

Doctor Who – I love this TV show, and yeah I only started watching it a few short months ago, and yet I feel my obsession and love for the show growing.

Environmental Science – This is the course I’m doing at uni at the moment; Bachelor of Environmental Science (Wildlife and Conservation Biology). That’s definitely a mouthful. I’m in my second year, this year.

Food – I think this is fairly self-explanatory. Food is the best, especially the good stuff.

Geek – This was a pretty tricky letter but I think this word fits me pretty well. I love being weird and different, and to be called a geek is a huge compliment to me.

Harry Potter – A lot of people say that Harry Potter was their childhood but it wasn’t really mine. I watched the movies the moment they came out but didn’t actually read the books until I was in high school. I almost instantly fell in love with them. Harry Potter plays such a large role in sculpting my love of the fantasy genre and is still my no.1 favourite book series.

Joking – I would have put this under H for humour but it was already taken. I have a really good sense of humour, in fact, one of my high-school teachers nicknamed me Laugh-a-Lot because I laughed so much in class. I’m a fan of witty humour mainly.

K**** – This is the first letter of my surname which for privacy reasons I’d rather not disclose but I couldn’t leave off this list because it’s pretty important (that and ‘K’ is another tricky letter 😛 )

London – This is the city that I am most desperate to visit at the moment. The moment I get the money to…

Melbourne – The city I was born in and still live in today. Melbourne’s the only home I’ve known. It’s my home city.

Nature – I’m what many people would call a tree-hugger so nature definitely deserves to be on the list. It’s the very reason why I’m doing environmental science. To just be completely surrounded by nature is one of the best feelings in the world. I really love it.

Otter – This is the animal I think I am most like.

Patch – I have a pet cat, her name is Patch and she’s three years old. We’ve had her for just over a year and adopted her from an animal shelter, her last owners gave her up because they didn’t have enough time for her. I may be a bit bias but I think she’s the best cat 🙂 This is her:

Quiet – When people first meet me I’m really quiet and shy. I find it pretty hard to talk in a group of people I don’t know, especially when they already know each other.

Resiliant – I’d like to think I’m fairly resilient to most things, but i don’t know how true that it.

Science – I have a love of science, more specifically biology (but B’ was already taken). In high school, biology was one of my favourite subjects and I feel like I can apply it to everyday life. I’m definitely more of a science person than a humanities person.

Tiger – My favourite animal. They’re just so strong and powerful when they’re adults and so cute and adorable when they’re cubs. Their  coat pattern is stunning and I just think they’re beautiful creatures.

Umpire – My first ever job was umpiring netball, and I still do it today. It’s awesome when a hobby turns into a job 🙂

Vet – When I was little, the first thing I wanted to be when I grew up was a veterinarian. As I got older that changed until I was about 16 when I wanted to be a vet again. But I really don’t like maths methods so I didn’t do it which meant that I couldn’t become a vet, which is fine now.

Writer – I love writing without limits. When there aren’t any constraints or rules. Writing just for the sake of writing. whether it’s a story, or a review, or a rant. I love writing.

Xxxx – This one was really tricky, but I think I should use this letter to show my distaste of swearwords. It works with x because an ‘x’ or a ‘*’ is often used to blot out letters. It’s a stretch but I’m going with that 🙂

Young – I’m definitely young as far as my age goes, and yet I can be even younger at heart (especially when I’m hanging around with people younger than me). Despite this, sometimes I feel a lot older than I actually am, which can be a good or bad thing.

Zany – I’m a little crazy at times. Especially when I have a laughing fit. Sometimes I just act a little weird and do weird things. You could say I’m a little zany.

That was definitely a lot harder than it should have been. Yeah, I think I’m definitely in a writing drought at the moment. But soon the rains will come and it’ll come back to me, hopefully. 🙂

Liebster Award

‘What’s this?’ I hear you say. ‘Another Liebster award?’ ‘

‘But it’s got a different image!’ I reply

Anyway, point it, I don’t really get many awards, so I’m very happy to say that today I got my third ever award! A (slightly) different Liebster Award! Yay! I was nominated for this award by Books and Insomnia who I would like to thank for this award. It’s given to people who have a following of 200 people or less.

Liebster Award

The rules of the Liebster Award are as follows :
1. Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog and link back to the blogger who presented this award to you.

2. Answer the 11 questions from the nominator, list 11 random facts about yourself and create 11 questions for your nominees.

3. Present the Liebster Blog Award to 11 blogs of 200 followers or less who you feel deserve to be noticed and leave a comment on their blog letting them know they have been chosen. (No tag backs)4. Copy and Paste the blog award on your blog

Questions From Books and Insomnia
1. How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for (checks blog) almost 10 months. Wow, how time flies. My first ever post was a Hunger Games Book Review.

2. Coffee or tea?
Well, I love the smell of coffee but I can’t stand the taste. As far as tea goes, I’m not a fan of English teas but I’m really starting to like herbal teas. So, tea. Definitely tea.

3. What’s your typical outfit?
A tee-shirt and pants. A dress occasionally. Yeah, I don’t think much about what I wear 😛

4. What do you think about the whole print books vs. e-books debate?
Well, from my Books vs. E-books Rant it’s very easy to see that I’d choose a print book over an e-book anyday.

5. What’s your best high school memory?
I have so many! The Arts Festivals, the Music Concerts, the random times in Outdoor Ed. Pretty much any time I got to spend time with all of my friends.

6. Who’s your favorite Hollywood actor/actress?
By Hollywood, I hope you just mean in movies, there are so many! Alan Rickman, Maggie smith, David Tennant, Benedict Cumberbatch… I could go on and on.

7. List three places in the world that you’d like to visit.
London, the Amazon and Hong Kong.

8. Do you have a pet? What animal is it?
I have several pets; a couple of goldfish, a guinea pig (Fudge) and a cat (Patch).

9. If you can change one thing about your physical appearance, what would that be and why?
I would get rid of my acne, for obvious reasons.

10. Have you seen/read the Twilight series? Did you like it or not?
I have read it but so far I’ve only seen three of the movies. The books weren’t that bad, I can love them and hate them depending on my mood. The first movie was rubbish, and the two following it were ok.

11. Do you think my questions are boring and nonsense? It’s okay, be honest.
I like the questions and I enjoyed answering them 🙂

Liebster Blogger Award

Yay! The categories of “Awards” is now accurate, because this is my second award! 😀 I was nominated for this award by JustOneMonkeyTyping, who is an awesome blogger whose blog you should check out right now! So, what award is this new post for? The Liebster Blogger Award, for all those with blogs with less than 200 followers (which I can easily put myself in the category of).

As it turns out, I’ve already done what this reward requires in another post, without actually receiving the award.. hmm. However, there is now a new set of questions I must answer. So sit back, relax, and learn more about your fellow blogger.

1. If you could play any musical instrument, which would you choose?
I already play a musical instrument, the trombone! And I love it! I wouldn’t choose to change it for any other instrument. It’s unique, like me (I was the only trombonist in my school for almost the whole time I was there). And it’s really helped me to learn more about the great bass clef.

2. What is your favourite city and why?
I’d love to visit London, to see everything Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter related! Therefore, London is the city I most want to visit, and could become my favourite city at some point. But of course, I can’t go past my home city Melbourne, which will always be very dear to me. It’s not really special in any way, we don’t have amazing beaches, or cool volcanoes, or the tallest buildings, or the most modern streets. I just like it for what it is. Mainly, I think, because I know it.

3. As a child, who was your idol and why?
I never really had an idol. I admired the characteristics of different people, usually my friends and family, but never really one person. I still feel the same way now. I admire JK Rowling’s writing skills, some of my friends’ compassion and the like. But I don’t admire a single person for everything. Everyone makes mistakes and nobody’s perfect, so I don’t want to see them as such.

4. What is your least favourite word and why?
The F-word and the C-word. I really don’t like swearwords, and these ones are the worst. They’re just really vile and make people sound stupid. When people say them, I just try to ignore it and act like nothing’s wrong, but I’m really cringing on the inside (and on the outside too sometimes). I have to admit though, I do like translating the swearword to their original meaning and having a good laugh at people’s statements.

5. Your house is burning down and you have to evacuate immediately. Which three items do you take with you?
Not counting pets (because I don’t classify them as items), probably my USB, scrapbook and… I don’t know. My scrapbook because I’ve spent so much time and it and it contains things I can’t replace. My USB because it just has everything electronic on it that I need. The third object I really don’t have any idea about. It would probably just be the closest thing to me at the time.

6. If you could invite anybody in the world to lunch, who would you take and why?
Ooh, tricky. Probably JK Rowling so I could ask her all the questions about Harry Potter and her new book that I want to know. I’d also ask her about her inspirations and how she avoids writer’s block.

7. What is your honest opinion about Harry Potter?
I LOVE it! It’s my favourite series.

8. Beatles or Rolling Stones?
I’m not a massive fan of either, but I’d have to say The Beatles.

9. What is your favourite smell?
The smell of the Australian bush. Fresh air and eucalyptus.

10. If you had an extra room in your house, what would you use it for?
Probably as a storage/show-off area to put all my beanie kids, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings memorabilia. And all my books.

11. Here’s a tough one for you. If you could ask any person, living or dead, one question and get a completely honest answer, who would it be and what would you ask?
I would ask Jesus if he really was God. Tough question, tough answer.

Well, that was fun, and difficult at the same time. I hope you enjoyed yourselves! 🙂 How would you guys answer these questions?

Versatile Blogger Award!!

You may be wondering why I’m posting on a day that I don’t usually post on, that’s because I was nominated! For an award! An actual award! The Versatile Blogger Award!

The rules for accepting this award is that I have to thank the person who nominated me and link them, give some random facts about myself that you may not know and nominate some blogs I enjoy and/or admire for the award, let them know that they’ve been nominated and link them in the post.

So, first off, I would like to thank Gemma and her amazing blog Remain Insane for nominating me for this award. I never thought that a simple review blog would ever be nominated so thank you so much. ❤

Secondly, some random facts about myself:

  1. I’m a massive animal and environment lover! I’ve always had pets (guniea pigs, budgies, goldfish, tropical fish, mice, cats and a dog) and as any of my friends would tell you, I’m a big ‘greenie’.
  2. I love being weird. Seriously, people calling me weird is actually a compliment to me. Who wants to be normal? 😛
  3. I absolutely LOVE swimming. It’s probably my favourite sport. Saying this, when I was little, I was the only person in my swim class too scared to go into the deep end. 🙂

Thirdly, nominate other blogs for the Versatile Blogger Award:

1.  Blogs-Of-A-Bookaholic

A very funny, entertaining and informative blog with a lovely writer for people who love all things books.

2.  Cuter Than E.coli

For the science nerd, a range of funny and amazing pictures related to all things science.

3.  mikumi musings

A newly discovered blog that has absolutely amazing stories and pictures of a National Park in Tanzania.

4.  stefanb33

A good friend of mine who has just started up his review-related blog. He’s given me heaps of help with my reviews so his future posts should be awesome!

Thanks again Gemma for the nomination and remember, keep blogging! 🙂
